At its meeting on September 3, the city council was informed about the construction of the new two-form entry elementary school and the new four-group daycare center in Salzgitter-Lichtenberg "Am Zingel".

Both construction projects are currently being implemented. The daycare center is scheduled to open at the end of March 2025. The planned outdoor facilities need to be built before it can open. This means that the current temporary access route to the sports hall will have to be omitted, as this leads over the area of the daycare center's outdoor facilities, which otherwise cannot be built.

Furthermore, due to the construction schedule for the daycare center and the parking lot in front of the gymnasium, it will not be possible to ensure a safe access route and direct access to the gymnasium for emergency vehicles until the end of 2024.

City planning officer Michael Tacke emphasized: "Safety always comes first. During this phase of the construction work, however, the safety of users cannot be adequately guaranteed. We therefore ask all users of the sports hall for their understanding for the temporary closure."

The Lichtenberg gymnasium will be closed from Friday, October 4, until probably January 15, 2025. Weather-related delays are possible.

The local council of the village of Nordwest was informed in advance, as was the elementary school.

Alternatives for existing users were found in consultation with Bäder, Sport- und Freizeit GmbH and MTV Lichtenberg.
