In future, the SRB will therefore place particular emphasis on clean separation of organic waste in order to reduce the amount of contaminants such as plastics and residual waste in organic waste.
Kitchen and garden waste, such as fruit and vegetable waste, food waste, grass and shrub cuttings and flowers, are mainly disposed of in the organic waste garbage cans.
Plastic bags in particular do not belong in the organic waste. Plastic bags or bioplastic bags made of biodegradable plastics are excluded from disposal in the organic waste garbage can in the city of Salzgitter. So-called bioplastics or biodegradable plastics do not decompose quickly enough in the usual composting times in the plants and the smallest plastic particles are released into the environment as microplastics via the compost.
The SRB therefore asks all users of organic waste garbage cans to observe a few instructions regarding the filling of the bins. Only newspaper or uncoated paper bags may be used for the disposal of organic waste. Spoiled food may only be disposed of in the organic waste garbage can without packaging.
Answers to further questions about waste disposal can be obtained by calling 05341/ 839-3741.
