Election Sunday:
Polling stations are open continuously from 8 am to 6 pm. In principle, all residents over the age of 16 and citizens of the European Union registered in Salzgitter are entitled to vote, provided that a corresponding application has been submitted. Voters must bring their polling card and/or their identity card or passport with them to the election and must identify themselves at the request of the electoral board.
On election Sunday, in justified exceptional cases, the right to vote by post can be exercised until 3 pm. Those entitled to vote can obtain further information by calling 05341 / 839-3665.
Representative election statistics:
As in previous Europawahl elections, representative electoral statistics will be conducted on June 9, 2024, which will take place in constituencies 37 (Salder elementary school) and 87 (Salzgitter -Bad grammar school). This is a special election statistics count that is carried out in addition to the general election result.
Representative election statistics are used to analyze voting behavior by age group and gender (statistical groups) in addition to the voting record. It provides a specific picture of the political will expressed by voters. In order to be able to evaluate the votes, the electoral boards in the selected constituencies issue official ballot papers with a distinction printed on them (gender and year of birth group).
The print on the ballot papers does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about the voting behavior of the individual voter. It is only used for statistical purposes. In addition, only the marked ballot papers are handed over to the Lower Saxony State Statistical Office for further evaluation after the votes have been counted.
Corresponding announcements and information from the municipal electoral administration can be found in the selected postal polling stations.
In contrast to the voter surveys conducted by electoral research institutes before election day or on election day after the election, representative electoral statistics reflect the actual voter turnout and voting. It is not based on survey data, but on the evaluation of ballot papers in the selected electoral districts. It anonymously reflects voting behavior at the time of voting.
Voters therefore need not fear a breach of voting secrecy.
