The 100 general polling districts in the city and the postal voting districts must be fully staffed on election day. Based on experience from previous elections, it is to be expected that the number of postal votes will again be significantly higher.
An election committee consisting of 8 people from among the eligible voters must be appointed for each electoral district. No special prior knowledge is required. However, electoral assistants must be eligible to vote. Interested parties must be at least 18 years old on election day and have German citizenship. The work includes conducting the elections in the 100 polling stations as well as counting the votes for the postal ballot in 25 districts. Experienced election workers are asked to advertise their commitment, for example among friends, acquaintances and colleagues.
Depending on the position on the electoral board, an expense allowance of 30 to 55 euros is paid for the voluntary work. But that is not all. Performing this civic duty gives you the opportunity to get involved and help ensure that the election process runs smoothly.
Elections are an important part of democracy. Democracy thrives on citizens actively participating in the political process - for example as election workers. That is why, according to the city's electoral office, the opportunity should be taken to experience a piece of democracy "live" on election Sunday.
Teamwork is required on election day. An election committee consists of eight people and is made up of an election chairman, a secretary, the respective deputies and four assessors. The tasks of the election committee include issuing the ballot papers, checking the electoral roll, counting the votes and determining the election results.
Preparation for the election begins at 7:30 a.m. - all members of the electoral board must be present at this time. The polling stations are open from 8 am to 6 pm. It is not necessary for all members of the electoral board to be present at all times during this period - each individual poll worker is usually on duty for half a day (in the morning or afternoon by arrangement with the electoral board).
After the polling stations have closed, the entire electoral board then counts the ballot papers and determines the election result in the respective electoral district.
