Reading and discussion: A brief history of artificial intelligence

The Literaturbüro of the city of Salzgitter invites you to a reading and discussion on the topic of artificial intelligence on Friday, February 21, at 7.30 p.m. in the Kniestedter Kirche in Salzgitter-Bad.

There, Michael Wildenhain, who has so far mainly appeared as a novelist, will present "A Brief History of Artificial Intelligence", his first non-fiction book published in 2024.

As Wildenhain shows in his overview, which is condensed into just over 100 pages, people have long been fascinated and afraid of automatons, robots and artificial intelligence. In his reading, the author takes an exemplary look at this exciting history from the beginning and explains the development and reception of artificial intelligence using key milestones.

From writers such as Mary Shelley to the pioneers of programming such as Herbert A. Simon, Allen Newell and Alan Turing, he describes the development of AI. He engrossingly discusses the extent to which AI systems can be considered intelligent on a human scale and whether it is possible for them to develop their own consciousness as they become increasingly complex.

Michael Wildenhain

Michael Wildenhain was born in 1958 in Berlin, where he still lives today. After studying philosophy and computer science, he became involved in the squatters' scene, which provided him with material for his first literary publications. He has received numerous awards for his literary work, including the Alfred Döblin Prize, the Ernst Willner Prize and the London Scholarship from the German Literature Fund.

Admission costs 10 euros in advance and 12 euros at the box office.
