They are allocated free of charge for two years.
At the end of this period, a review will be carried out together with the businesses to determine whether further use of the planters is desired.
The measure is intended to contribute to the greening of the city center and increase the quality of stay in public spaces, while also providing targeted support for local restaurants, which play a key role in revitalizing the city center.
"With the planters, we are not only creating new green islands, but also making an active contribution to strengthening our restaurants. They are an important part of the city center and contribute significantly to the quality of stay and experience," says Jan Erik Bohling, Managing Director of WIS City Council.
In order to meet the different needs of the businesses, planters in various sizes and designs were selected. The restaurateurs themselves are responsible for the planting, so that individual design freedom is retained.
Last year, WIS contacted inner-city restaurants and asked them to participate in the project. Five businesses expressed interest and have now been provided with planters. These include: Bennos feine Kost, Café Carree, Café Mi Vida, Eiscafé Adria and Ratskeller/Täglich Salzgitter. A small contingent is available for other interested parties and can be requested from the WIS city management.
The project is part of a comprehensive package of measures that the city of Salzgitter and WIS are implementing through the "Sustainable inner cities and centers" funding program of the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Construction in order to make inner cities sustainable and liveable.
