In his welcoming address, Striese said: "You carol singers go from house to house and collect donations so that children around the world are better off. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child has been in existence for 35 years, but unfortunately millions of children worldwide suffer from hunger, forced labor, war or are unable to attend school. With your commitment, you are actively doing something about this. I think that's great and I'm proud of you!"
Silvia Wahl, parish secretary, who was also present at the carol singers' reception, added: "Dear carol singers, you are great, you sacrifice your free time and vacations and go out to help other children."
The carol singing in Salzgitter is organized every year by the four Catholic parishes of St. Bernward (Thiede), St. Joseph (Lebenstedt), St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe (Fredenberg) and St. Marien (Bad).
The motto of the 2025 carol singing campaign is "Raise your voice! - Carol singing for children's rights". The background to this is the Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted by the United Nations in 1989. The binding fundamental rights apply to all children worldwide. The money raised by the carol singers will be used to support around 1,100 projects worldwide.
