Salzgitter

VHS course successfully completed

Eleven participants have successfully completed an eight-month course at the Volkshochschule (VHS) in the city of Salzgitter, qualifying them to work in primary and secondary schools.

The participants have successfully completed the VHS course.

Educational assistants are an integral part of elementary school in Lower Saxony and are established alongside the regular teaching staff. They plan and implement supplementary teaching activities, supervise classes in the event of substitutions and help with accompanying measures in everyday school life.

The eight-month course focused on basic knowledge in the areas of pedagogy, methodology and didactics, communication and conversation. In addition, the course content included supplementary teaching as well as the organizational and legal framework of Lower Saxony's school law. A 160-hour work placement and vocational German rounded off the theory.

All participants successfully presented what they had learned in a two-day colloquium and received their certificate.

Some of them will now start their training as socio-educational assistants at the vocational schools (BBS) in Fredenberg in order to work in the nursery sector later on; others plan to remain in the school sector.
