In Hagenholz in Salzgitter-Thiede, trees will have to be removed again this winter due to traffic safety regulations. The trees, which have already been marked, pose a danger to visitors and neighboring buildings, as dead treetops or parts of the crown can break off or entire trees can fall over unpredictably. The safety of this important recreational forest, especially in the area of the paved circular paths, makes the felling necessary. In addition, typical forest hazards are always to be expected, especially away from the paved paths.
The necessary work is scheduled to take place between February 3 and February 7, 2025. It will be carried out by a specialist company and will take several days. During this time, access to the forest will be restricted. The barriers set up in parts of the forest must be observed at all times.
The Hagenholz is managed in accordance with the legal requirements of the Federal and State Forest Act. The primary aim is to maintain and develop the forest in a healthy and stable condition in the long term as a habitat for species-rich flora and fauna. This is ensured by the responsible authorities, the Niedersächsische Landesforsten (Liebenburg Forestry Office) and the Salzgitter Municipal Forestry Company (SRB).
In addition, the entire municipal forest has been certified in accordance with the PEFC forest certification system since 2003 and is therefore subject to independent monitoring of the current standards of ecological, economic and social sustainability.
