"Arrival in the Unknown" Extended Through November 22

Due to the high level of interest, the exhibition “Arrival into the Unknown” has been extended through November 22, 2026.

Some of the items on display that displaced persons and refugees brought with them from their former homes to Salzgitter between 1945 and 1950.

It was originally on display as part of the traveling exhibition “From ‘You’ to ‘We’” about refugees and displaced persons in Lower Saxony, which had to be taken down at the end of June.

Due to the large number of interested visitors, the team at the Municipal Museum has now decided to keep its own curated section on the postwar situation in Salzgitter on display for a longer period. Under the title “Arrival into the Unknown: Refugees and Displaced Persons in Salzgitter 1945–1950,” visitors can learn more about the new arrivals in the young city of Salzgitter through November 22, 2026.

The exhibition space on the first floor of the “Pferdestall” is accessible (elevator).

The exhibition is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
