The task: to find a quote from the American writer James Daniel on the shelves of the city library during opening hours.
A tour of the city library in Lebenstedt, Salzgitter-Bad and Fredenberg leads participants to picture cards, each with one of the words from the quote they are looking for written on it.
If you put them in the correct order and write them down on the answer sheet, you will be entered into a prize draw to win three book vouchers.
The entry forms will be available on World Book Day at the information desk at the three city library locations. The completed sheets can be handed in on the spot. The three winners of a book voucher will be chosen from all participants and notified.
There is also a little surprise waiting for everyone who takes part in the word search on World Book Day!
"Getting people young and old excited about books and reading is our daily mission, which we are delighted to fulfill. As a city library, we like to use World Book Day to draw attention to ourselves as a house of education, culture and encounters with a special offer. By inviting people to take part in this little rally, we want to inspire them to visit our libraries more often and take advantage of the many opportunities they offer," says Sylvia Fiedler, Head of the City Library, explaining this year's initiative for World Book Day.
"With joint activities such as the 'Lesen und Lecker' (read and enjoy) offer on Fredenberg and in Lebenstedt, we bring people and books together in a convivial atmosphere and create shared experiences. That's why, as a housing company, we like to take World Book Day as an opportunity to celebrate reading together with the city library - across all generations," says social education graduate Petra Stürmer, co-initiator of the campaign and responsible for social management at Wohnbau Salzgitter.
Information:
On April 23, bookshops, publishers, libraries, schools and reading enthusiasts across Germany celebrate a big reading festival on UNESCO World Book Day. A regional tradition has become an international event: in 1995, UNESCO declared April 23rd "World Book Day", the global holiday for reading, books and the rights of authors. The UN organization for culture and education was inspired by the Catalan custom of giving roses and books on the name day of the popular saint St. George. In addition to this custom, April 23rd also has special significance for another reason: it is the anniversary of the deaths of William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes.
Opening hours on April 23:
Lebenstedt City Library: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Salzgitter-Bad City Library: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fredenberg City Library: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
