Numerous visitors took advantage of Wednesday, July 1—the last day before summer vacation—to check out the new pump track in Salzgitter-Gebhardshagen and celebrate its official opening together.
Also present were numerous members of the Salzgitter City Council, representatives from Pumptrack.de—the company that built the facility—Dietrich Leptien, director of the municipal public works department (SRB), and Mayor Stefan Klein. He ceremoniously cut the ribbon to mark the opening and emphasized in his welcoming remarks: “Good things take time. Today we’re inaugurating this fantastic pump track. Five years ago, the City Council approved the construction, and now it’s finally complete. I would like to thank Pumptrack.de and everyone involved for making this a reality.”
Freeride mountain biker Justus Imhorst provided the sporting highlight. The up-and-coming talent demonstrated the facility’s capabilities in an impressive exhibition. Afterward, the mountain biker took time for photos, autographs, and conversations with the children and teenagers.
The pump track has been very popular ever since it opened in December 2025. Now that rain shelters and bicycle parking spaces have also been completed, the project is now fully finished.
Spanning approximately 1,620 square meters and ranging from 250 to 330 meters in length, the facility offers a variety of riding experiences for all ages and skill levels—whether by bike, scooter, skateboard, or inline skates. The course consists of four sections: a protected kids’ track for the youngest riders or beginners, a classic pump track, a jump line for jumps, and a bowl for advanced riders. The sections are interconnected and allow for numerous different riding options.
Another special feature is the facility’s inclusive design. It is barrier-free and can also be used by people in wheelchairs as well as those with motor or sensory impairments.
The construction of the pump track facility cost approximately 425,000 euros. The project was preceded by a multi-year planning and participatory process during which children and teens were able to contribute their ideas. Construction began in September 2025. The pump track was completed after just about three months.
