This unique work of art was created by graffiti artist Ronny Knorr. After completing the project, the Salzgitter-based artist presented the finished artwork—which wraps around the base of the city library—to Mayor Frank Klingebiel.
“I’m thrilled! A dreary wall marred by graffiti has been transformed into a real eye-catcher. My thanks go to the artist, the city library team, the Salzgitter Library Society, and everyone involved in bringing this project to life.”
The idea arose after Ronny Knorr had decorated parts of the newly redesigned children’s library with his graffiti art in 2020. After being contacted, Knorr—together with his wife, Barbara Kowalski—brought to life the visions and motif ideas of the City Library team, led by Director Sylvia Fiedler and Administrative Director Barbara Henning. Within just a few weeks, Knorr used spray cans and brushes to transform the base of the city library into a colorful panorama with plenty to discover: for example, owls peek out from the shelves here and there. There are characters from children’s books and numerous charming details. The flower meadow on the south side of the building also instantly lifts your spirits.
About the artist Ronny Knorr:
Ronny Knorr first picked up a paint can at the age of 13 and discovered his passion. His first major work was a barn in Othfresen; in 2006, he brought color to the steelworks for the first time when he painted the wall of the hall at the School of Transportation Technology. More commissions followed: For example, the Salzgitter city administration asked him to make Lebenstedt more beautiful and colorful. For this project, he chose nature and fantasy motifs, as well as themes related to Salzgitter. Ronny Knorr drew inspiration from the graffiti artists of the New York scene. He is a member of the “Lo Life Family,” a diverse hip-hop community.
