From October 2 to 4, Salzgitter will once again become a hub for rhythm: At the 38th International Drummer Meeting, top international drummers will come together with motivated up-and-coming talents, amateur musicians, and professionals.
The event kicks off with the Fine Arts Big Band featuring Jochen Trus on Friday, October 2 (8:00 p.m. at the Kulturscheune in Lebenstedt). Berlin radio star Jochen Trus takes guests on a journey. He tells of lonely, impressive landscapes and of noisy, hectic cities. He’ll speak of wondrous encounters with extraordinary people—in hotel suites in Las Vegas, at observatories in Hawaii, among skyscrapers in New York, or in cheap motels on the edge of endless desert roads in Nevada. He’ll talk about the winners and losers of the American Dream.
Jochen Trus is accompanied by the outstanding musicians of the 17-piece Fine Arts Big Band.
On Saturday (a holiday), October 3 (8:00 p.m. at Kulturscheune), the Drummer Meeting kicks off with workshops and concerts:
Performers include Stanton Moore, Ronnie Burrage, Simon Gattringer, Dirk Erchinger, Dennis “Kira Kyoto” Vanhöfen, PiTTi Hecht, and Ben Flohr.
Information about advance ticket sales, participation, and more is available on the website https://www.salzgitter.de/veranstaltungskalender/drummer-meeting
Just one week later, Svavar Knútur will also share stories of breathtaking landscapes (Saturday, October 10, 8:00 p.m., Kniestedt Church). With Nordic composure, Svavar recounts the hard but not joyless lives of the people in Iceland’s rugged West Fjords. He is accompanied by three female string players.
Anyone who has already had the chance to experience a performance by Svavar Knútur (in Salzgitter) will remember it for a long time to come. His performances are an emotional roller coaster—ranging from being moved to tears to crying with laughter—that captivate the audience and don’t let go anytime soon.
The “Blues in the Church” series kicks off on Friday, October 16, with Steve Baker & The LiveWires (8:00 p.m. at Kniestedter Church). A native of London, he is one of the great harmonica players on the scene. His music blends blues, Americana, and rock with a touch of reggae and funk into an exciting fusion.
He is well known to many fans as the longtime sideman of blues legend Abi Wallenstein. Now he has also made a name for himself as a songwriter and frontman. His songs exude attitude and strike a deeply personal chord that, among other things, reflects our turbulent times.
An early musical holiday gift and a musical premiere will take place on Friday, October 30, also as part of the “Blues in the Church” series , featuring Meena Cryle & Chris Fillmore (8:00 p.m., Kniestedter Church).
Meena Cryle is expressive, versatile, and deeply moving—and she wins over more than just her audience. Together with the gifted guitarist Chris Fillmore, she has forged an uncompromising path for her songwriting over the past 30 years.
Southern soul, blues, roots, and gospel are woven into a live performance brimming with longing and devotion.
A little over a year ago, Hamburg pianist Jan Fischer (Jessy Martens, Big Daddy Wilson) stepped in as keyboardist. The chemistry was instant! The idea for a trio was born.
Guests can look forward to a fantastic premiere!
