Salzgitter

Focus on mobility for all

The participants of the second participation workshop contributed their ideas and wishes for the skate park at the ice rink that was approved by the city council. The participants included representatives from the sports of skateboarding, wheelchair motorcross (WCMX) and BMX.

The design for the skate park was presented at the second participation workshop.

Beforehand, Lennart Eickhoff from the Landskate planning office presented the previous design in various forms:

After the first participation campaign in February, those present favored the so-called "street flow variant": a combination of street-style obstacles (rideable obstacles based on park benches, kerbs and other elements of urban development) and elements such as quarter pipes (rounded ramps that can be used both up and down). The aim is to offer future users a choice of different riding styles in the skate park.

As part of the area is planned for access routes and a recreation area, the main facility will be around 1,600 square meters in size.

All access routes will be planned without thresholds. Waste garbage cans are planned for each area where users are likely to spend longer periods of time.

A toilet facility is not yet planned due to the overall budget and the high construction and maintenance costs of a modern public toilet facility and would have to be examined and planned as a future measure.

Wishes were expressed and noted:

  • Redesign of a completely newly designed obstacle to improve passability.
  • Adjustment of heights at various points to adapt the facility to the needs of wheelchair users and other less experienced users.

What else is required?

  • A commissioned soil survey to be able to plan the drainage.
  • Planning the lighting so that the facility is illuminated in accordance with safety requirements.
  • The building permit will then be applied for.

What happens next?

  • The next plan for the finished design should be available in about eight weeks.
  • According to the planner, the start of construction depends on how quickly the building is approved (see above). If the construction phase falls in the winter, a start of construction at the beginning of spring 2027 is preferred in view of the concrete work.
  • Construction of the facility is estimated to take around five months.

Information about the skatepark project:

The Salzgittersee City Council decided to build a skate park in conjunction with the renovation of existing tennis facilities as a measure to further develop the Salzgittersee.

There were six tennis courts on the site to the east of the ice rink, each arranged as doubles courts and a smaller "single court".

The two easternmost tennis courts have already been dismantled in accordance with the council's decision. The two southern tennis courts have already been renovated. The next step is to dismantle the two northern courts and the single court area. The skate park will be built on this site once planning permission has been granted.
