Emergency childcare during the Christmas break (December 23, 28, 29, and 30, 2026) is offered to all first-grade students under the Full-Day Education Act (GaFöG). The emergency childcare locations are in the Salzgitter-Bad and Lebenstedt neighborhoods and are operated by a private youth welfare organization.
What do parents and guardians need to know and do?
A binding registration is required by Friday, October 9, to ensure the service is planned to meet demand.
- Upon registration, parents or guardians must submit a certificate from their employer confirming that they must work during this period. Without this proof, the child cannot be cared for!
- Once registration is complete and has been reviewed by the City of Salzgitter’s Department of Children, Youth, and Family, participation for the selected period is binding.
- Childcare is provided from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch is provided by the service provider.
- Parents or legal guardians must pay 25 euros for each week or portion thereof. The cost of lunch is billed directly by the provider.
Registration: Registration takes place via the Nupian vacation portal on the city’s website (https://www.unser-ferienprogramm.de/salzgitter/index.php (opens in a new tab)). The required employer’s certificate can also be uploaded there. Important: Registration must be completed by October 9. The registration portal will close after that date.
