The official opening took place on Monday, March 30.
The cycle path is around 1.5 kilometers long and runs along the north side of the L636. It starts at the Hopfenhof road in Salzgitter-Salder and leads to the junction with the K12 (Nord-Süd-Straße) near the Diebesstieg landfill site.
"With the new cycle path, we are creating a safe and convenient connection for cycle traffic between Salder and Nord-Süd-Straße. This is another important building block for better cycling infrastructure in the region," says Michael Peuke, Head of the Wolfenbüttel Division of the Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport.
Salzgitter's First Mayor Stefan Klein adds: "I am delighted that the 1.5-kilometer cycle path is now complete and that safety for all road users on this important stretch of road has been significantly improved. This closes an important gap in our cycle path network."
The construction costs amount to around 850,000 euros and are being borne jointly by the state of Lower Saxony and the city of Salzgitter. The city is covering slightly more than half of the costs to enable the cycle path to be widened from 2.50 to 3.00 meters. This means that the cycle path can also be used by agricultural traffic.
The Lower Saxony State Authority for Road Construction and Transport and the City of Salzgitter would like to thank all road users and those concerned for their understanding during the construction period.
