Summer vacation begins in Lower Saxony on July 2. The city administration is using this time to carry out necessary renovation work and continue ongoing construction projects.
2.41 million euros will be invested in 21 building renovation projects in municipal buildings. The projects range from small-scale renovations, such as replacing the flooring at the Thiede Secondary School or the Watenstedt Elementary School, to the restoration of a parquet floor at the An der Klunkau secondary school, to larger construction projects such as re-roofing and insulation at the Kranichgymnasium, the renovation of the outdoor staircase at the Salzgitter-Bad High School, the construction of a container facility for the temporary building at the Thiede Elementary School, and the continuation of the renovation of Tower 0 at the Fredenberg High School.
In road construction, 2.95 million euros will be invested in four construction projects. In Salzgitter-Immendorf and Salzgitter-Üfingen, two bus stops in each location will be renovated to make them accessible. Funding for this is provided under the Municipal Transportation Financing Act. In addition, two roads in development areas in Salzgitter-Bad (Nordholz development area) and Salzgitter-Ringelheim (Lange Äcker West development area) will be fully completed.
Construction of the new bridges on Industriestraße Mitte will continue through the end of 2027, with planned costs of approximately 10.7 million euros.
Regarding the construction projects, City Planning Director Michael Tacke explains: “We are using the summer break for both small and large-scale renovation projects, since classes are not in session at municipal schools and road construction sites cause fewer traffic disruptions due to the lower volume of traffic during the vacation period.”
