Representatives from the city of Salzgitter, Telekom, and the construction company carrying out the work were on site.

The first households and businesses will soon be connected to Telekom’s fiber-optic network. Telekom promises that the expansion is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027. The company will lay more than six kilometers of fiber-optic cable all the way to the homes and install a new network distribution box. Telekom promises: To minimize disruption to residents as much as possible, the project will be carried out in individual construction phases.

Mayor Frank Klingebiel emphasizes the importance of reliable internet connections: “Fiber optics is the technology that meets the growing demands of the digital world, both today and in the future. A high-performance and reliable internet connection has long since become a decisive location factor for both households and businesses. That’s why I’m pleased that Telekom has now begun its fiber-optic expansion in Salzgitter.”

Peter Richter, Telekom’s authorized representative for the Northern Region, says: “The collaboration with the city is going very well, and we’re pleased to see the rollout begin. This will close fiber-optic gaps in the city of Salzgitter.”

“Anyone who has not yet given their consent for their property to be connected to the new fiber-optic network can do so now,” says Sabine Köhler, Telekom’s regional manager. “Otherwise, the fiber-optic cable won’t be brought into the house—it will simply run past it. To use the connection, you’ll need to sign up for a fiber-optic service plan.”
