The idea for this series of events came from the staff at Kontor Seeviertel in Lebenstedt (which focuses on senior citizens), who wanted to provide their older guests with information and further assistance in areas that particularly affect seniors, as well as offer them tips on current topics. This has resulted in a multifaceted program. The event is organized by the Senior Citizens’ Office in collaboration with the Kontor coordination team.
The speakers’ presentations range from answering the question “How can I protect myself from the heat on hot days?” to disaster preparedness through self-care and neighborhood assistance, to information on how to use a home emergency call system to maintain an independent lifestyle for as long as possible while still receiving quick help in an emergency.
The guest speakers are from Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe Salzgitter, the funeral home “Fischer Bestattungen,” the Salzgitter/Peine/Wolfenbüttel Police Department, the Betreuungsverein Salzgitter e.V., as well as staff from the Senior Citizens’ Office and the Public Health Department of the City of Salzgitter.

The event series kicks off with two sessions on Thursday, September 24:
- From 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., “Home Emergency Call System” at the “FlötherFrauenForum” premises, Riesentrapp 22, in Lebenstedt. Speaker: A member of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe Salzgitter.
- From 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., “Heat Protection—Be Well Prepared for Hot Days” at the town hall in Lebenstedt. Speakers: Staff from the City of Salzgitter’s Senior Citizens’ Office.
- On Friday, September 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., a member of Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe will give a presentation at the Evangelical Family Education Center, located at Kattowitzer Straße 225 in Lebenstedt, on prevention and neighborly assistance as practical disaster preparedness measures.
- On Monday, September 28, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., at the Evangelical Family Education Center, located at Kattowitzer Straße 225 in Lebenstedt, Sigmar Aust from the Salzgitter/Peine/Wolfenbüttel Police Department will give a presentation on “Love Scams and Fraudulent Calls.”
- On Tuesday, September 29, Matthias Fischer from the Salzgitter-based funeral home “Fischer Bestattung” will give a presentation from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Alloheim Senior Residence, located on Albert-Schweitzer-Straße in Lebenstedt, on the topic of “Funeral Services.”
- On Wednesday, September 30, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., the Senior Citizens’ Office at the Evangelical Family Education Center, located at Kattowitzer Straße 225 in Lebenstedt, will offer “Retirement—What Now?” Tips on how to meaningfully fill this new phase of life through volunteer work.
In October:
- On Thursday, October 1, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., staff members from the Senior Citizens’ Office and the Care Support Center will be offering advice at Lebenstedt City Hall under the title “Care Assistance” on what to do when family members need or will need care.
- On Monday, October 5, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., Sigmar Aust from the Salzgitter/Peine/Wolfenbüttel, will be at the WoWieTreff, located at Lessingstraße 17a in Lebenstedt, to provide information on how to protect yourself from pickpocketing and prevent your credit cards from being misused by others.
- On Wednesday, October 7, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the Willig Senior Care Home, Haus Lindenhof, located at Neißestraße 76 in Lebenstedt, the focus will be on how to maintain your autonomy well into old age by drafting or having someone draft powers of attorney, guardianship directives, and advance healthcare directives for you. The speakers are specialists from the Salzgitter Guardianship Association and the City of Salzgitter’s Guardianship Office.
- The series of events concludes with a presentation by the City of Salzgitter’s Guardianship Office titled “Disability and Inclusion” on Thursday, October 8, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., at the Diakonie-Treff Fredenberg, Schinkelweg 8, in Lebenstedt. The presentation will focus on the support options available to people with disabilities through the City of Salzgitter’s municipal disability services.
