Dog registration
The dog(s) must be registered in writing within 14 days of acquisition or moving to Salzgitter, stating the breed, at the city administration in the Citizens' Center or at the Budget and Finance Department, Taxes Team.
You will need the dog's chip number, proof of the theoretical part of the certificate of competence and the insurance number of the liability insurance for your dog.
After registration, dog tax stamps are issued, which must be returned when the dog is deregistered.
Dogs must wear a valid, clearly visible dog tax tag outside a dwelling or enclosed property.
Tax rates
To be paid annually:
100,00 € for the first dog
140,00 € for the second dog
180.00 € for each additional dog
Dog deregistration
The dog(s) must be deregistered within 14 days if
- the dog has died (please submit a copy from the vet, animal crematorium or animal cemetery for deregistration)
- the dog owner has moved to another location
- the dog has been passed on.
If the dog has been passed on, the dog can only be deregistered if the name and address of the new dog owner and the date of the transfer are given.
Under certain conditions (e.g. benefits from the job center, basic income support, assistance with living expenses, severe disability), a dog tax reduction or exemption may be granted upon application.
Dog re-registration
The dog can only be re-registered if the dog owner has moved within Salzgitter.
