Salzgitter

Conversion of street lighting to LED technology

At the end of 2017, the city of Salzgitter replaced the public lighting on Chemnitzer Straße and In den Blumentriften / Fischzug. A total of 125 outdated lights were replaced with modern, environmentally friendly LED lights.

The conversion will save around 49,500 kWh of energy per year and around 30 tons ofCO2 per year. In addition, the predicted long service life of LED lights will also lead to savings in maintenance.

The total cost of the measure is around € 60,000. The city will receive around €12,000 in funding for the implementation, as the measure will receive 20% of the eligible costs from the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) as part of the German government's climate protection initiative.

In future, the city of Salzgitter will continue to check whether funding is possible for all street lighting modernization measures.
