Salzgitter

Conversion of street lighting to LED technology

In 2019, the city of Salzgitter renewed the public lighting in the Konrad-Adenauer-Str. area. A total of 65 outdated lights were replaced with modern, environmentally friendly LED lights.

The conversion will save around 19,000 kWh of energy per year and around 11 tons of CO2 per year. In addition, the predicted long service life of LED lights will also lead to savings in maintenance.

The total costs for the measure amounted to around € 30,000. The city received around € 6,000 in funding for the implementation, as the measure is subsidized by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) with 20% of the eligible costs as part of the German government's climate protection initiative.

In future, the city of Salzgitter will continue to check whether funding is possible for all street lighting modernization measures.
