To ensure that the municipal traffic network in all 31 districts is operational and safe at all times, regular maintenance and repair work must be carried out on the traffic areas (roads, footpaths and cycle paths), including the associated equipment (traffic signs, delineators, etc.).
The official tasks are carried out by the Civil Engineering and Traffic Department.
Minor maintenance and repair work is carried out by the municipal maintenance company with the personnel employed there. Larger-scale work is outsourced by the SRB to qualified road construction companies. The length of the road network to be maintained is 584 km. Of this, 429 km are urban roads and 155 km are non-urban roads.
