Description
As a German citizen, you must have a valid identity card from the age of 16, unless you have a valid passport.
If your ID card is stolen, you must report the theft to the Citizens' Registration Office or the police. If you fail to do so, you will be committing an administrative offense.
If you report the loss to the Citizens' Registration Office, you can apply for a new ID card there directly.
Blocking the online ID function:
If the theft is reported to the police or the Citizens' Registration Office, the online ID function is automatically blocked to prevent misuse.
You also have the option of blocking it yourself via the nationwide blocking hotline 116 116. To do this, you will need the blocking password from your PIN letter. After blocking, the online ID function can neither be used online nor read out on site.
You must have the separate signature function, if available, blocked directly by the provider of your signature certificate.
