Holders of a valid foreign driver’s license may drive motor vehicles in Germany within the scope of their authorization for a period of 6 months, provided they have their primary residence in Germany. If the individual intends to continue driving a motor vehicle in Germany, they must convert their driving authorization to a German driver’s license.

EU or EEA driver’s licenses with harmonized license classes generally do not require conversion, provided they are not temporary licenses.
