After a name change, your ID card is no longer valid. So if you have changed your last name—for example, after a divorce or the dissolution of a civil partnership—you must apply for a new ID card.
There is one exception: As long as you have a valid travel document—that is, a passport or temporary passport—bearing your new name, you do not need to apply for a new ID card.
The EU logo on the front of the ID card, introduced on August 2, 2021, does not render ID cards without this logo invalid.
The validity period depends on your age at the time of application:

• under 24 years of age: The ID card is valid for 6 years.
• 24 years of age or older: The ID card is valid for 10 years.

A temporary ID card is valid for a maximum of 3 months.
You can submit the application at the citizens’ office in your primary place of residence. Applications may be submitted at any other citizens’ office if a valid reason is provided. In such cases, a surcharge for out-of-jurisdiction processing applies, which means the cost of issuance will increase.
