Do you operate a plant that is subject to immission control licensing and constitutes an operating area or is part of an operating area, and are you planning to make accident-relevant changes to the plant?

If the accident-relevant change

• the safety distance to neighboring protected objects falls below the appropriate safety distance for the first time,
• the safety distance already fallen below is further reduced, or
• a significant increase in risk is triggered

To do this, you must submit an application for a modification permit and submit all the necessary documents for the assessment. The application can be made in writing or electronically.

However, approval is not required if and insofar as the obligation to maintain the appropriate safety distance is already guaranteed at the level of a spatially significant plan or measure by binding specifications.
