Description
If you no longer wish to use your vehicle that is exempt from registration but has been assigned a license plate, you can apply to have it decommissioned. This applies, for example, to:
- Light motorcycles
- Forklifts and self-propelled work machines, provided they are not marked for a maximum speed of up to 20 km/h
- Trailers for sports purposes or work machines, unless they are marked for a maximum speed of up to 25 km/h
Once you have decommissioned the vehicle, you may no longer operate it on public roads or park it on public property.
Even after decommissioning your vehicle, you can have the license plate reserved for up to one year for later re-registration. This does not apply if the license plate was transferred to another registration district and is decommissioned there.
