Dental Health Service

The Dental Health Service is part of the Department of Child and Adolescent Health. It is dedicated to promoting the oral and dental health of children and adolescents. The goal is to detect dental diseases early and, through preventive care, avoid them whenever possible.

The dental team conducts regular dental examinations in daycare centers and schools. During these exams, the children’s teeth and oral health are checked, and, if necessary, recommendations are made for a visit to a dental office.

In addition to dental examinations, fluoride treatment is offered in schools to prevent cavities. Participation in this program is voluntary.

Another key focus is group prevention. In the familiar setting of their daycare center, children learn, in an age-appropriate manner, how to properly care for their teeth and what constitutes a diet that supports dental health.

In this way, the Dental Health Service helps promote the dental health of children and adolescents and lays the groundwork for healthy teeth right from the start.

Our responsibilities in the area of children’s and adolescents’ dental care:

  • Sending informational materials and a toothbrush to all 6-month-old children
  • Examinations of 2-year-olds and counseling for parents at the public health department. The children receive a free dental care kit
  • Screening examinations in daycare centers and schools up to 6th grade (special education schools up to 10th grade)
  • Group preventive care in daycare centers (including nurseries) and schools up through 6th grade (special education schools up through 10th grade). The children receive a free toothbrush
  • Enamel strengthening through fluoride varnish application in elementary schools
  • Information sessions for preschool and school staff as well as for parents
  • Events for National Dental Health Day and participation in the “Healthy Teeth” Working Group (AGZ)
  • For daily brushing at daycare centers, we provide each child with 4 toothbrushes per year, toothpaste, and a cup

In addition:

  • Examinations,
  • evaluations, and
  • recommendations (applications for dental prostheses) for municipal specialized services
