The Municipal Volkshochschule Salzgitter (VHS) has been running integration courses for immigrants on behalf of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) since 2005. Information about the content of the courses can be obtained from the Volkshochschule (VHS) in Salzgitter or directly from the BAMF.

Integration courses consist of a German course/language course and an orientation course. The German course comprises between 600 and 1,200 lessons, the orientation course 100 lessons. Participation is free of charge for most participants, although a fee is charged in certain cases. The number of participants in general integration courses is limited to 25.

Anyone wishing to attend such a course requires an authorization to participate or an obligation to participate.
Depending on the target group, the foreigners authority, the provider of basic benefits for jobseekers (Jobcenter Salzgitter etc.), the provider of benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, the Federal Office of Administration or the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) will confirm eligibility to participate.

When registering, participants must bring their authorization to participate, their passport and current residence permit or identity card.
