In 1848, the old garden and fishpond grounds were transformed into a spacious English-style park.
The castle and estate became the property of the Reichswerke after it was founded in 1937. The company set up its administrative offices in the historic building.
After 1942, the castle and park were leased to the Braunschweig State Insurance Institute, which used it as a pulmonary sanatorium. Later, a specialist department of the Lower Saxony State Hospital in Königslutter was located here. Today, the building and park are privately owned.
The extensive castle park is open to the public. Also worth seeing is an octagonal pigeon tower in the estate courtyard, the monastery church with its baroque organ and the estate courtyard.
