Jazz shimmers through the improvisations; classical training shines through in the flawless ensemble playing; and the wide horizons of four global citizens—who are at the same time deeply rooted in their homeland—are reflected in the diverse musical echoes. This music defies any simple categorization and creates a delightful sense of auditory confusion.
Maxjoseph’s music is not merely a synthesis of art music and popular music, of old and new, of folk and classical—it is an invitation to a dialogue in which boundaries blur, yet one remains firmly grounded, rooted in one’s homeland.
“Lagom” is the title of Maxjoseph’s new album and program—music that combines tradition and the present with a keen sense of balance. Inspired by the Swedish term for “just the right amount,” a distinctive sound emerges that balances holding on and letting go: light-footed, elegant, and full of character. Jazz-like openness, classical precision, and a broad musical horizon combine with deep roots in their homeland to create contemporary folk music that defies all labels.
Maxjoseph are:
Georg Unterholzner – guitar
Andreas Winkler – Styrian harmonica
