February 18, 5 p.m., opening of the special exhibition "Nazi persecutees from the Salzgitter region"

Venue: Gewerkschaftshaus (GWH), Chemnitzer Straße 33, in Lebenstedt

With the start of the construction of the Reichswerke "Hermann Göring", tens of thousands of people came - voluntarily or under duress - to the area that is now Salzgitter. Many of those deported had already been victims of National Socialist persecution. But what was the situation like before construction began? And what is known about those who came here voluntarily? There were also people among the local population who were persecuted because of their political convictions or their resistance. The exhibition is dedicated to those persecuted in Salzgitter and recalls their fates.

The exhibition is freely accessible during the opening hours of the GWH.
