A blend of Anglo-American roots music
London-born Steve Baker has long been regarded as one of the great harp players of international renown. He is well known to many fans as the long-time accompanist of blues legend Abi Wallenstein, and his four CDs with guitar virtuoso Chris Jones, who sadly died far too early in 2005, are still considered groundbreaking today.
Now he has also made a name for himself as a songwriter and frontman and has released three CDs of his own cross-genre compositions on Timezone Records within just a few years. His songs radiate with attitude and strike a deeply personal note, reflecting our turbulent times, among other things.
Here, elements of blues, Americana and rock flow together with a touch of reggae and funk to create an exciting synthesis. Catchy and lively, the songs combine melodic pop sensibility with thought-provoking lyrics, performed with the energy and intensity that has always characterized Steve's work.
His distinctive harmonica style, always at the service of the song, is funky, melodic and elegant, perfectly complementing his voice. Together with his great band The LiveWires, Steve Baker succeeds in reinventing himself time and again and presents an exciting and original overall sound on stage that transcends genres and is musically convincing.
