The Medienzentrum is part of the Cultural Department and thus an essential component of the city's public relations work and cultural communication. We also look after other specialist services of the City of Salzgitter and support them in their communication and media projects that go beyond the production of press releases.

Since July 15, 2020, the Medienzentrum has also been responsible for live broadcasts of council meetings. This task was decided by the council of the City of Salzgitter by amending the main statutes and the rules of procedure for the council, the administrative committee and the council committees.

Our strategic orientation is of great importance for the communication of the city of Salzgitter. Through targeted content creation and innovative media work, we strengthen Salzgitter's public profile and contribute to its positive perception.

With our specialist staff, we set standards and supplement the city's public relations work with high-quality productions. We operate the Instagram channel "Culture in Salzgitter" (opens in a new tab) and also create content for other municipal social media channels.

In addition, the Medienzentrum organizes its own events that contribute to cultural education and the promotion of media literacy in Salzgitter.

Furthermore, the Medienzentrum strengthens the quality development of schools and teaching in Salzgitter. Schools are supported by a media education consultant at the Medienzentrum in the creation of media concepts, in particular as part of the Digital Pact, and in the quality development of schools and lessons.

Another central pillar of the Medienzentrum is the rental and testing of devices to and for schools. This includes tablets and other mobile devices, robotics as well as video and sound equipment with accessories. Competent media viewing and media procurement, the acquisition of suitable licenses, the development, maintenance and updating of the rental and online stock, the lending of educational media and the associated advice for teachers are also part of our remit.
