Organic waste disposal

Organic waste must be collected separately and recycled. The SRB provides appropriate organic waste garbage cans for this purpose.

What belongs in the organic waste garbage can?

Kitchen and garden waste, such as fruit and vegetable waste, food waste, lawn and shrub cuttings and flowers, are mainly disposed of in the organic waste garbage cans.

It is particularly important for the quality of the compost that the organic waste is collected in the organic waste garbage can without any impurities such as plastic, glass, metal or other non-putrescible materials. Plastic bags in particular do not belong in the organic waste. Plastic bags or bioplastic bags made of biodegradable plastics are excluded from disposal in the organic waste garbage can in the city of Salzgitter. This also applies to bioplastic bags certified in accordance with DIN EN 14995 or EN 13432. So-called bioplastics or biodegradable plastics do not decompose quickly enough in the standard composting times in the plants and the smallest plastic particles are released into the environment as microplastics via the compost. Therefore, only newspaper or uncoated paper bags may be used for the disposal of organic waste.

Organic waste garbage cans that are incorrectly filled (e.g. with plastic bags or bioplastic bags) will not be emptied on collection day. Property owners have the following options:

  • To re-sort the organic waste garbage cans and only put out properly filled bins on the next organic waste garbage can emptying day,

or

  • order a chargeable special emptying as residual waste for organic waste garbage cans that have not been re-sorted at the following e-mail address srbdispostadt.salzgitterde.

According to § 4 Para. 1 of the waste fee statutes of the City of Salzgitter, the fee for the provision of a refuse truck outside of the regular collections carried out by the city (e.g. special emptying) is EUR 30.00 per 15 minutes or part thereof of provision time (loading time) of the refuse truck.

The differential fee (see waste fee statutes) between the organic and residual waste is additionally charged with the special emptying.
