Film about Marte-Meo in Salzgitter

The Marte Meo method has been used in many daycare centers in Salzgitter for five years. Now there is a film about the successful implementation of the method in Salzgitter.

It presents the implementation of this special method for supporting children's development. The film is available on You Tube as well as on the Facebook page of the city of Salzgitter (Die Linke at the bottom of this page).

The demand for further education and training in the Marte Meo field is booming. To date, over 100 educational professionals in the city have trained to become so-called "practitioners". This means that they practice their social profession, such as educators, day care workers, school social workers and remedial teachers, and integrate the method into their everyday work.

A special feature in Salzgitter in the Marte Meo area is the family center "Die Stiftsmäuse" in Steterburg. It is one of the many kindergartens in Salzgitter participating in the program and is also the only "Marte Meo consultation daycare centre" in Lower Saxony. Consultation daycare centers are available to educational professionals as an information and visit center, as they can serve as a model of best practice in their field. Here, visitors can experience how Marte Meo is practiced and works in a daycare center on a daily basis.

The Marte Meo method was developed back in the 1980s by special needs teacher Maria Aarts in the Netherlands. At the time, she was working with autistic children. Today, the method is used in almost forty countries, including Germany. It is so popular with nursery school teachers because it helps them to support children according to their abilities and resources. The method arose out of the need to provide parents and educators with helpful, concrete and everyday information in simple terms on how to deal with children with special needs in a way that promotes their development. For many parents who need support, counseling services are often too abstract and difficult to implement.

Thanks to the Marte Meo method, which works intensively with video recordings, parents and educators immediately understand and see what the child can already do and what it needs next for its development. This makes it immediately clear what the adults can do in everyday life or in intensive support.
