There is also a varied program and a tour of other projects that were financed with this urban development program.
The playground in the Ost- und Westsiedlung, which was inaugurated in 2012, delights young and old alike. An open and attractive playground with multifunctional play equipment and additional play facilities was created on an area of around 2,400 square meters.
The main attraction is the multifunctional play equipment, which can be played on several levels. Here, children can slide and do gymnastics; in addition, the equipment has been supplemented with further play options that stimulate the children's imagination and senses. For example, the castle kitchen and the treasure chamber can be designed as "playhouses". For younger children, there is a separate play area next to the large play equipment. The redesign was funded by the federal-state Social City program. The construction costs amounted to around 200,000 euros.
In addition to fun and games for young and old around the Roxy-Helco playground, there will also be information about urban renewal. Food and drinks will also be provided. In addition, there will be a tour of other projects in the eastern and western estates that were financed as part of this urban development program and supplementary funding programs. The tour starts at 3 p.m.; the meeting point is directly at the Roxy-Helco playground (Burgundenstraße 40). The tour lasts around one hour. Registration is not necessary.
Further information: Day of urban development promotion
Urban development promotion in Germany is a joint project of the federal government, federal states and local authorities. In the 40 years of its existence, it has proven to be a success story of integrated urban development when the tackling of particular problems has required additional support for local authorities from the federal and state governments. There are currently around 1,800 development areas throughout Germany in which urban development funding is used. However, this instrument of urban development, without which many an upgrading of urban districts would not have been possible, is little known to the public. This is set to change with an annual "Urban Development Day" in May. Last year, the "Urban Development Day" took place in Steterburg.
