Dispose of pool water correctly

Due to the coronavirus, many households have acquired their own pool in the garden. In the meantime, summer and swimming fun in your own garden are coming to an end. Now the question arises: How do I dispose of this water properly?

The most common solution is prohibited: Pool water must not be allowed to seep into your own garden. This is because the fresh water in the pool is usually chemically treated to disinfect it and prevent algae. As a result of this and general use, the properties of the water (its pure form) are altered and it becomes dirty water.

But where should the pool water go?

Pool water is waste water and must always be discharged into the waste water drainage system. It is discharged in the same way as the pool water was let in: With the help of a hose and a pump, the waste water is discharged into the waste water sewer system through a drain, a toilet bowl or a waste water shaft (inspection chamber) on the property.

If these disposal options are not available (e.g. in allotment gardens), a disposal company must pump out the chemically treated pool water.

What is prohibited?

Pool water must not seep away on the property; it must not be fed into a rainwater drain or a body of water or simply discharged into the street.

Anyone violating these rules can be fined.
