On Saturday, October 26, 2019, the completed sports and family pool at Salzgittersee was inaugurated with an open day in bright sunshine. Sunday was also the first day of swimming.

The city of Salzgitter invested more than 13.7 million euros in the renovation. The project was implemented by the municipal Bäder, Sport und Freizeit Salzgitter GmbH.

One particular challenge was combining the new building, which was completed in May 2018, with the leisure and toddler area and the existing indoor swimming pool from the 1960s, which was extensively renovated in the second construction phase.
