Salzgitter

Mayor Klingebiel relieved about compromise at MAN

Yesterday a great weight was lifted from my heart. The MAN Executive Board's plan to cut 9,500 of the 36,000 jobs in Germany and Austria was averted.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel

Dismissals for operational reasons are now once again ruled out at all German locations.

I welcome the compromise that has now been reached, which means that our plant in Salzgitter is guaranteed a location and jobs and opens up long-term prospects as a central components plant. It has once again been hard-won. Once again, it has been shown that only the solidarity and joint efforts of the works council, IG Metall, state politicians, the council and mayor of the city of Salzgitter and the people of our city have persuaded the MAN Executive Board to give in. Salzgitter stands together; then, now and in the future! My special thanks go to Group Works Council Chairman Athanasios Stimoniaris and Works Council Chairwoman Elke Behmer-Geisler, who have vehemently and successfully fought for the interests of the employees in tough negotiations.

I am now awaiting the detailed elaboration of the future concept and socially acceptable solutions for the 200 jobs that are expected to be lost in Salzgitter and, unfortunately, for all jobs that will be lost in the Group. I attach particular importance to the development and conversion to new technologies such as battery cells and hydrogen.

A successful industry is and will remain the lifeblood of our city of Salzgitter.
