Salzgitter

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel successful in Berlin

The refurbishment of the thermal brine wave pool receives significant federal funding.

After this project was unfortunately not considered in the first call for funding from the federal government, Mayor Frank Klingebiel was successful in obtaining funding for this important municipal investment project in Berlin.

The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag today released € 2 million in funding for the refurbishment of the thermal brine wave pool in Salzgitter-Bad.

Mayor Frank Klingebiel: "I was a little disappointed that our project could not be considered in the first call for funding from the federal government due to the high volume of applications from all over Germany. I was all the more pleased that the federal government has continued its funding for the renovation of municipal facilities in the areas of sport, youth and culture with a further call for projects in coordination with the municipal umbrella organizations. In close consultation with André Berghegger, member of the Bundestag and deputy budget policy spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, whom I have known very well since his active time as former mayor of the town of Melle and former member of the executive committee of the Nds. With the support of the members of the Bundestag Roy Kühne (CDU) and Victor Perli (Die Linke), we were able to convince the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag today of the necessity and importance of the refurbishment of the thermal brine pool in Salzgitter-Bad. Due to the very limited funding available nationwide in the second call for projects, this was a tough job of persuasion. I am very proud of the success and would like to thank the three members of the Bundestag, especially André Berghegger."

The thermal brine wave pool, built in 1972, offers a comprehensive range of health and swimming facilities in the city of Salzgitter with a wide catchment area in the region. The target groups are schools, clubs, sportsmen and women, children and families and, in particular, health-conscious users of all ages. With its brine wave pool, outdoor brine pool, therapy brine pool, physiotherapy and physiotherapy practice, sauna and course and fitness areas, the thermal brine wave pool is a unique wellness and health facility that is used by almost 240,000 guests every year.

Due to its age, the changing rooms for guests need to be refurbished and redesigned, and the supply and ventilation systems, WC and shower facilities and access to the baths need to be renovated - with particular consideration given to age and disability aspects with barrier-free access to all areas of the baths, including catering. In addition, the suspended ceiling above the brine wave pool must be replaced due to structural and safety-related assessments.

Lord Mayor Frank Klingebiel concludes: "The renovation of the thermal brine wave pool is a matter close to my heart - like Salzgittersee in the north, the thermal brine wave pool in the south is also important for the city as a whole. In addition, the thermal brine wave pool is part of a spa concept in the state-recognized district with the Salzgitter-Bad brine spa and is therefore a supra-regional attraction for the people of Salzgitter and the region. The refurbishment is essential for the preservation of the spa and its appeal to the city and the region. The total costs amount to € 2.278 million, of which the federal government will provide around € 2 million in funding. The federal funding provides for a 5-year funding period from 2021 to 2025. The schedule and details of the renovations will be announced in consultation with the funding provider once the approval notice has been received."
