In the last electoral term, the South Local Council commissioned the administration to install a "banknote bank" on Klesmerplatz for beautification purposes (draft resolution 4419/17). The City of Salzgitter's Civil Engineering and Transport Department has now implemented this.
Klesmerplatz is suitable for a music stand in two respects. It is a reminder of the city's musical Klesmer past: Salzgitter's Wandermusikanten, the Klesmer, were known almost all over the world in the 19th century. At the Klesmer Festival at the end of May, the groups of today also recall the tradition of the Klesmers of yesteryear. In addition, "notes" are a means of payment, which means that the connection in the double meaning can also be made to both bank branches on the square.
The Civil Engineering and Transport Department acquired the bank. The artist and sprayer Ronny Knorr elaborately designed it as a "banknote bank". The SRB then installed it on the east side of Klesmerplatz in consultation with the Süd local council. The costs for this project amounted to around 2,200 euros.
During an on-site visit, Andreas Triebe, mayor of the village of Süd, was delighted with the bench as an enrichment of the square. Even before the Klesmerfestival, which takes place on Klesmerplatz from May 27 to 29, this bench can now be used to linger.
