Curator Stephanie Borrmann was able to persuade thirteen Hamburg artists to come to Salder and present their work here. They provide a variety of insights into their creative processes.

The works of Rolf Bergmeier, Marc Lüders, Svenja Maaß, Clemencia Labin, Dirk Meinzer, Fernando de Brito, Peter Nikolaus Heikenwälder, Suse Itzel, Katrin Horsch, Reinhold Engberding, Gisela Bullacher, Jan Köchermann and Michael Bauch can be seen in the exhibition rooms.

The scene in Hamburg is diverse and not exactly small. Borrmann has succeeded in presenting a cross-section of the local art scene with the selection of invited artists. The works presented show just how diverse the art scene in Hamburg is. The group of exhibiting artists is made up of native Hanseatics as well as so-called "newcomers".

The spectrum covered by these thirteen artistic positions includes painting as well as photography, sculpture, film, textile objects and drawing.

"In a time of great uncertainty, 'Presence' makes the gallery of the Salzgitter Municipal Art Collections a place of discourse on artistic positions," emphasized Hartmut Schölch, Head of the Municipal Department of Culture, adding: "Once again, a mirror of our social life becomes visible and art opens up questions about relevance, identity, values and one's own point of view."

This year, the exhibition will once again be accompanied by an educational program with guided tours and workshops. Further information can be found on the website www.kunst-schloss-salder.de (opens in a new tab).

The "Presence" exhibition series

Every two years, the Municipal Art Collections of the City of Salzgitter offer the "Presence" series, a format that expands the view of art beyond the local borders.

Each time, the aim is to make artistic positions from a different region of Germany visible in Salder. What interests the artists from these regions? Are there differences to artists working in Lower Saxony? And: Are there other questions, other formal inventions, or are there rather recognizable links in the artistic positions?
