A lot has already happened in the city centers of Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad in recent years. New buildings have been constructed in Lebenstedt town center, a hotel has been built and opened and the St. Elisabeth Hospital is currently being rebuilt in Salzgitter-Bad. The two climate-friendly forums in Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad were only recently completed and a public toilet facility is currently being built in Lebenstedt. All these measures serve to increase the attractiveness of the two city centers and have already achieved a great deal.
City centers - not only in Salzgitter - face particular challenges. The process that is now starting is intended to analyze where there is a need for improvement and where there may be untapped potential in the two centers of Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad with the help of experts and everyone who cares about the topic. The key question will be how the two city centers need to position themselves in the future in order to be attractive for citizens, tourists and tradespeople alike.
The opinions, wishes and ideas of the citizens and all users of the city centers are also extremely important.
The process, which is funded by the federal program "Sustainable inner cities and centers" and supported by the Hanover-based planning office "cima", aims to create a holistic and sustainable concept for the two centers in Lebenstedt and Salzgitter-Bad. In addition to mobility and traffic issues, the focus is also on strengthening the local retail trade, the typical urban mix of working, living and leisure uses and the interests of culture, tourism and gastronomy. In addition to the urban planning, economic and traffic aspects, approaches for a more sustainable and ecological use of the center are also taken into account. Local residents, citizens and other stakeholders are expressly invited to participate in the process in various ways.
The two public kick-off events are a first opportunity to get actively involved in the development of the city center.
For Salzgitter-Lebenstedt, this will take place on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the Kulturscheune, Thiestraße 22, 38226 Salzgitter.
The kick-off event for Salzgitter-Bad will then follow on Friday, August 18, 2023, at 7 p.m. in the city library (Salzgitter-Bad location), Marktplatz 11, 38259 Salzgitter.
In addition to information on the objectives of the city center concepts, the development process and further opportunities for participation, there will be a guided walk through the city center afterwards, during which strengths, weaknesses and initial concrete needs for improvement and project ideas will be collected.
Registration for the kick-off events is closed. However, citizens are also welcome to attend the kick-off events for the city center concepts without prior registration!
In addition, an online survey and an ideas card are active in which interested parties can participate. You can find them here (opens in a new tab).
