Inauguration on the Day of Urban Development

A special inauguration on Urban Development Day: many citizens were delighted to celebrate the completion of a successful project for the community on the market square in Steterburg on a sunny Saturday, May 13, 2023.

The residents inaugurated the new seating at a small celebration.

The pop-up parklet kicked off with hands-on workshops that took place from May 5 to 11 and were financed by the Verfügungsfonds. The design concept was developed by Berlin artist Helen Feifel. She provided on-site guidance during construction and accompanied the workshops.

Many young and old citizens were active together: benches and planter boxes were built, designed, painted and planted.

On the Day of Urban Development, everyone was delighted with the colorful self-built furniture on four parking boxes. Citizens wrote down further ideas for the use of the market square on display boards.

Christian Striese, second mayor of the city of Salzgitter and mayor of the village of Nordost, thanked all the participants for their special commitment to the community. The mobile furniture beautifies the market square and invites people to linger. These hands-on workshops have shown how actively local people are committed to Steterburg. The district management also thanked all those involved for the successful project.

Until October, the newly designed market square can continue to be actively used by citizens with their own ideas for the community.

The elements will then be dismantled for the winter and will remain in Steterburg for further use.

If you have any questions or ideas, you can contact the district office by phone, email or in person at the district office at Lange Hecke 4 (phone: 05341/8879201 or email: kontaktsteterburgnet.

Information "Pop-up Parklet":

From May to October, a so-called "pop-up parklet" will provide more quality of stay and usage options on the Steterburg market square.

In addition to the blue clock, four parking spaces will be temporarily redesigned with additional seating and planters for flowers and herbs.

Mobile furniture was built using funds from the "Soziale Stadt Steterburg" (Steterburg Socially Integrative City) development fund.

Over the summer, an open and green meeting place is to be created in the middle of the estate, where community activities and various smaller events can take place.

The newly designed marketplace can then continue to be actively used by citizens with their own ideas for the community until October.

The elements will then be dismantled and remain in Steterburg for further use.
