Mayor Frank Klingebiel explains: "A lot has already happened in the east and west estates in recent years. Good examples of this are the Roxy-Helco playground, the "ARCHE 4" community facility, Martin-Luther-Platz and the neighborhood park at the Am Ziesberg elementary school. Nevertheless, there is still a great need for action in the neighborhood. This is reflected in numerous complaints from tenants about the structural condition of their residential buildings, unkempt outdoor areas, poor roads or illegally disposed of garbage or bulky waste. Conversely, it is clear that structural measures and street renovations in particular significantly improve the residential environment. As we still have around 2.2 million euros in funding available until 2025, this will be used to renovate Engeroder Straße between Rheinstraße and Am Ziesberg, as this area is in great need of renovation. This area of Engeroder Strasse is also home to the housing stock that we acquired with funding from the second pillar of Salzgitterhilfe. The redevelopment of the street and the parking spaces will also increase their long-term marketing opportunities."

As a basis for funding the "Engeroder Straße / section between the streets Am Ziesberg to Rheinstraße" project as part of urban development funding, the current Integrated Action Plan 2021 - 2025 must be supplemented by the corresponding individual measure. This will be presented to the Salzgitter City Council for a decision in November after consultation in the local council and the specialist committees. The integrated action plan does not yet have any direct financial obligations or effects, but it does create the basis. Only with the respective concrete project decision on the road renovation, which is also decided on by the council, will the implementation of the measure become binding.

"We are currently examining whether approved funds from urban development funding can also be used for the housing stock acquired by the city. We can use funding to upgrade the gardens and front areas of the buildings without having to make any further adjustments to the integrated action plan. These measures will enable us to actively improve living conditions in the eastern and western estates," concludes Klingebiel.
