It was opened on Sunday, June 4, by Ulf Zillmann, Mayor of the City of Gotha, and Christian Striese, Second Mayor of the City of Salzgitter.
In their opening speeches, both agreed that town twinning is very different. The one between Gotha and Salzgitter is active and is lived as a strong partnership.
"The partnership with Gotha is actually the oldest town twinning between Lower Saxony and Thuringia," said Striese. "The partnership document was signed in Gotha in November 1988, just one year before the fall of the Berlin Wall," adds Zillmann. Over the past 35 years, many friendships have developed between Gotha and Salzgitter.
The Salzgitterstrasse in Gotha and Gothastrasse in Salzgitter, for example, are outward signs of this strong bond.
The exhibition by Luise von Rohden and Bettina Schünemann honors the 35th anniversary of this partnership. Both artists work with constructed coincidence. Both have recurring motifs or variations of motifs that are strung together in different textures. The inner structure, the context, is what makes up the different textures, not just the artists' different working methods.
The exhibition can be seen until July 16 at the Städtische Kunstsammlungen Schloss Salder (Museumstraße 34). Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Admission is free of charge.
