Dietrich Leptien, operations manager of the city's public works department (SRB), gives an interim summary of the winter service operation: "Yesterday's persistent snowfall in particular presented our winter service with challenges. Thanks to the efforts of all available employees and the deployment of eight winter service vehicles in two shifts, all main roads remained passable even during yesterday's snowfall. This Friday, the winter road clearance service will also be clearing smaller roads and other footpaths.
Due to the persistent snowfall yesterday afternoon and evening, the professional fire department was also called out on several occasions. Fallen trees had to be removed from the road on Nord-Süd-Straße and on district roads 1, 2, 23 and 33. For this purpose, Nord-Süd-Straße was closed twice for around 15 minutes in the direction of Lebenstedt. On the connecting road from Osterlinde to Lichtenberg, branches that were hanging down had to be removed. There were no further operations of a similar nature during the night of Friday, January 10.
Arne Sicks, head of the professional fire department, sums up: "Fortunately, there were largely no weather-related operations by the emergency services. This is certainly also thanks to the cautious driving style of the vast majority of road users. The reason for the fallen trees was the weight of the wet snow. All in all, this onset of winter did not lead to an unusually high number of operations and all operations were completed quickly."
Christmas tree removal
Due to the wintry weather conditions and the deployment of the winter road clearance service, the collection of Christmas trees in the city districts may be delayed by a few days. We ask for your understanding.
